Writing this post and not feeling very inspirational.  Actually, feeling a bit sick.  Sore throat and all that jazz.  No matter what though,  I plan on resurrecting this body tomorrow :)

I thought it would be a good idea to write about something that I think we all struggle with from time to time.  And, I thought it would be good to write about it while I find myself in the midst of struggling with it myself.  The topic--finding inspiration.

How do we find it when we feel dry and empty?  It can seem like trying to dance with no music on.  Although I like to have my own "life" soundtrack playing in my heart and head all of the time, some days it just seems real hard to find the will and the drive to go on.

Do we get under the blankets and cover up?  Do we quit?  Do we surrender?  Not a chance.  Of course, sometimes you just need to hide under the sheets and I'm ALL FOR THAT :)   But most of the time it is not something requiring simple rest.  Lack of motivation and inspiration runs much deeper than that.  It can be a multifaceted and complex emotional and physiological dilemma.  Take a few moments and consider the following ways to deal with it and, hopefully, find the inspiration you're seeking.  PLEASE watch the video below.  It involves a Father and a son.  To this day, my Dad is still my hero.  He always will be.  I love you, Dad.

ACTION STEPS TO FINDING INSPIRATION

1.  Envision Your Future AS You Would like it to Be

Getting the body of your dreams or accomplishing big things requires sacrifice but also motivation.  Let the vision of YOUR "possible" future be the fuel that puts fire in your heart.  Whatever it is you want, bring the dream to life with vivid mental images and maybe even music.  As I type this post, I have my own music playing.  Use vision and music to move you.

2.  Spend Quality Time in Solitude

It's very important to spend time processing your thoughts and meditating on your hopes and aspirations in complete quiet.  This means no distractions and NO other people.  Silence.

3.  Allow Your Thoughts to Drive Your Actions

Use the thoughts of the future and of your aspirations to lead you to take action.  Never sit on inspiration and let it pass.  Write down your thoughts or speak them into a audio recorder.  Plan the following day in your head and see yourself BEING the inspiration you need.

4.  Leave This Earth and Look Back

Pretend you've come to the end of your life and then look back.  Have you left a legacy behind for others to follow?  Have you touched and shaped the lives of those closest to you?  What will others say about you?  Will your actions continue to cause change in this world long after your gone?  Realizing that you ARE leaving a legacy --for good or bad--is a very powerful way to feel the need to claim ownership of your life and choices.  Don't just leave a legacy...Burn a Beautiful Trail behind you!

When I was a young boy, I would pray to God that if he wasn't going to USE me for something greater than myself, that he should just take me...then and now.  Then, I recall one night under the street lights, I was crying to my father about my significance.  I said, "Dad, I don't want just to exist.  I want my life to mean something."  My dad turned to me and said, "T, you are going to be great."

I never forgot that moment.  What makes it all the more special is that my dad really believed that with all his heart.  That moment still inspires me to this day.

I hope the video below inspires you.  The son couldn't live the dream without his dad.  So, his dad gave it all he had with his son.  Enjoy

I'm no stranger to pain.  Not by a longshot.  I have experienced some very trying things in my short life.  Without getting too specific for sake of not wanting to sound overly dramatic, let's just say that this world can bring the pain.

One example, I recall getting a phone call from the hospital.  A close friend asked the nurses to contact me.  She wanted me to come and see her.  My schedule was beyond insane at the time since I made firm commitments and I had to keep them.  But of course, more importantly I knew I needed to be there for her.  I also knew from the nurses that it would have to be as soon as possible.  The way things were at the time, I really only had two choices.  I could go to the hospital then and only spend a few minutes with her or I could wait until the following day.  I decided to wait.

At that moment it seemed like a very poor choice but deep down inside I knew I needed to wait.

I raced to the hospital the next day.  I rushed into her room.  I still remember her smile like it was yesterday.   It was not long before this day that we were at her house enjoying a barbecue and laughing together.  I sat down on the bed next to her and she began to get animated as she always did when she was intense in conversation.  She was always funny and loved to make me laugh.  We shared the same crazy sense of humor :)

She began telling me how she had been in a dispute with her husband the night before and she told him to leave the room and go home.   We discussed it and I tried to bring her peace with what she was feeling about him.  I shared with her how much he loved her and adored her and it was only the pain of seeing her suffer that caused his nervousness and their disagreement.  We talked for a little while longer.  We laughed too.  As I held her hand she began to struggle with her breathing.  I reached over and whispered in her ear and I told her that I loved her. Then, she passed away in my arms.

As the doctors and nurses rushed in, one nurse turned to me and said, "you made it here at just the right time."  She was right.  I did.  There are NO accidents in this world.

As I drove home in tears, I remember thinking about her husband.  They had just bought a new home together.  Newly married.  She was only in her early 20s.  What would his life be like now?  How would he go on?  Would he be okay?

This is reality.  This is life.  Not one of us can separate our everyday hopes and dreams from the painful and sometimes horrifying moments that are thrown at us.  While this might seem like a very exteme example, we all have pain from the past and present that seeks to rob us of our goals TODAY and TOMORROW.

That's why most emotional eating is often rooted in pain so deep and complex that all of the appetite killers in the world could NEVER stop that person from binging on comfort food if they feel they need it.

But there is hope for every single one of us.  Just as pain has wired you up in certain ways, you can use your tears to take you to the top.  I believe anyone can recondition themselves to become whatever it is that they desire.  Some principles must be applied, however.

1.  Look at Your Past Constructively and with Purpose

Some people will look at their past pains and sorrows and cry out "why me!", while others will look at the same types of pain and say, "Never ME again!".  The outlook you draw from your past will shape your current attitude. And, quite simply, as has been said before, your ATTITUDE will DETERMINE your ALTITUDE.

We must learn from our past sorrows and mistakes.  This involves not only understanding WHY you may have done something, but HOW you handled it.  We all think we KNOW ourselves so well that we don't need to look back at all.  These are the same types of people who step in the same mess over and over again.  Be honest with your self-evaluation and your past.  But then, take those lessons and MOVE ON.  LET IT GO! You can't live in tomorrow with one foot in yesterday.  GO and GET those dreams.  Turn those tears into fuel.  Feed on them until they have no more power over you.

2.  Accept Past Failure as Part of Becoming Great

Just ask most who have accomplished greatness if they had to overcome incredible hardships in order to get there.  The answer is almost always the same, YES!

In your pursuit to become your very best and reach your own personal level of greatness you can expect to experience sorrow, pain, isolation, fear, loss in all its forms and ongoing doubt.  These feelings will come and go and you can and will make it through all of them so long as you realize and keep telling yourself that they are momentary.

3.  Claim Your Future Now and Condition Your Mind to Live it Today

It's imperative to own the words that come out of your mouth.  If you're always speaking negatively about yourself, then I can almost guarantee that you may NEVER see what you want.  But, if you learn to turn your self-talk into positive FUEL that puts fire to your goals and dreams, there's nothing that will be outside of your reach.  Here's the problem, most people never spend a tenth of the time necessary to truly condition their minds in a way that will actively and permanently change behavior.   It must be aggressive, continual and address very important aspects of your mind and emotions that you KNOW need to be changed for the better.

Here's a little heads up.  If you're someone who finds yourself saying "easier said than done" a lot, then you might need to stop procrastinating about the necessary change and JUST DO IT!

After my friend died, I was asked to speak at her funeral service.  I was not at a loss for words since she gave me a lot of fond memories.  In her short life, SHE LIVED to the FULLEST!  Please, do the same and never settle for less than your best!

Dammmmmmm, the Colonel is smokin Ripped!  Is Col. Sanders lookin Jacked Up or What? Hahahaha!! LOL!

If we could all only get ripped eating KFC, ahhhhhh what a wonderful world it would be.

Imagine, after your workout hitting the Drive-Thru for some extra crispy?  Yup, I would be there day and night and night and day...extra slaw of course :)

But NO, that will not lead to a ripped and ultra-lean physique.  I know everybody is looking for the magic pill and that's why the supplement companies are CLEANING up in a multi-Billion dollar industry.  I do know and believe that certain nutrients can enhance and increase metabolism.  But I never seem to find them in ANY of these herbal formulas.  At least not enough of them and not in the right amounts to do anything other than NOTHING!

However, at the end of the day, there is really ONLY one MAIN thing that can get you SUPER ripped if that is what you want.

Want to know what that is?

Clean eating and watching your calories--explicitly! Stop Boo-Whoooooing about how you're not enjoying what others are eating and JUST DO IT!  Those who get that ripped look, put in the work--period.  Of course, there are those who are genetic exceptions.  You know, those with insanely fast metabolic rates who just get lean and veiny easily.  But that is not true for most.

Getting ripped is about watching everything you put in your mouth.  Getting ripped requires lower calories than you may be accustomed to and eating low calories for extended periods of time.

I know, many internet "gurus" claim you must watch to be sure that you eat HIGH enough calories to maintain your metabolic requirements (RMR, BMR, etc).  While this is true, the need to shift the calories as often as they claim is simply untrue and not necessary.  Your weight loss and fat loss WILL CRAWL if you follow that ridiculous pseudo-scientific approach.

One day a week of HIGH calories is all that you need to shift your body out of a metabolic slur and keep fat burning as your main source of energy.  What can you eat?  ANYTHING! Eat KFC or my favorite, Popeyes :)  Remember, however, ONE meal.  This is NOT a cheat "DAY".

The other important side of this is handled with the RIGHT cardio done at the RIGHT time.  Knowing the right type of cardio at the proper time will even help to condition your body for the cheat meals, if done correctly.

Here is the approach that works in a general sense.

1.  Low calorie meal planning (1200 for Women; 1600 for Men)- This is general. Heavier individuals need more calories.  Remain on this plan for at least 12 weeks.  Emphasis is on lean protein and green carbs.  However, NOT all people need green carbs.  I can eat brown rice like it's water and I still get leaner.  We are ALL different.

2.  Time-specific cardio sessions.  Using both High intensity intervals and low intensity steady state will TEACH your body how to USE fat more efficiently.  I know, the "experts" claim to teach ONLY one or the other as being best.  Well, ask THEM for their "before/after" pictures.  I have thousands to share with the world.  This is NOT cookie cutter.  We are NOT all created the same way and the body needs different approaches at different times.

3.  One high calorie meal per week. (keep in mind that this principle may not apply to athletes such as my Figure competitors or bodybuilders since they are are prolonged plans with very explicit protocols.  This is all "general").

4.  Drink LOTS of water spiked with Lemon juice and Green tea extract.  Women need at least 2-3 liters per day and Men should get a gallon and a half.

5.  Maintain a very good anti-catabolic approach to nutrition.  This means you must be ingesting certain nutrients to help regulate healthy hormone response and nitrogen balance.  Post workout time is just as important as breakfast if not more important.  Drink a shake of protein and healthy fats after every workout.

6.  Accountability is crucial.  If you can't afford a coach or trainer, get a friend to hold you accountable.  Otherwise, you will always give yourself permission when you don't DESERVE it.  Trust me, you do NOT deserve it when you THINK you do.  I'll explain that another time.

Hope that gets you moving in the RIPPED direction!

How about some awesome belly fat, want some?  Anybody want some jelly-looking fat to store around their gut region?  Belly fat going once...belly fat going twice...belly fat gone!

I wonder why I didn't have any takers.  A few rolls of belly fat can be so attractive and sexy.  What?  No?  Well, maybe for some.  But most of us want to lose it and exchange it for that nice six pack.

Believe it or not, there are hormonal situations that can result in unwanted fat being stored "specifically" around the waist and abdominal area.

For instance, a rise in cortisol can lead to this.  That's precisely why all DreamBodies clients are taking anti-catabolic measures to insure the regulation and needed downgrade of the cortisol hormone--especially after workouts.  In fact, I'm in the process of formulating a Pre/Post workout shake that will be UNLIKE anything on the market and only available to our clients.  More about that much later on.

But for now, let me say that there is something you can do today to help break down some of the fat storage taking place in your belly region.  The direct metabolic implications of these foods are due to the hormonal regulation and optimization that these foods have on your body.

Are you ready to know what these foods are?

Okay, well, they're vegetables.  Specifically, the following five are the ones that I have been touting for years as genuine "leaning-out" types of foods.  I use them with my Figure models and Bodybuilders in certain proportions to help initiate and achieve that ripped look.

1. Brussels Sprouts

2. Kale

3. Broccoli

4. Cabbage

5. Cauliflower

Without getting into all of the science, let me just say that these cruciferous vegetables have a potent two-prong impact on your body's hormones.  For one, they have anti-estrogenic properties.  Estrogen can cause fat to be stored in very unwanted places.  Eating these veggies will help to lower your estrogen levels naturally.

Next, they have some anabolic affects on your body's muscle-building hormones--testosterone for one. Therefore, you can take a strong synergistic approach to burning that belly fat by eating moderate portions of these vegetables.

One last little golden tidbit :)  Be sure to add some healthy fats since studies show that this will help with the assimilation and utilization of these veggies.  Drizzle them with a tablespoon of Flaxseed oil or Udo's choice blend.

Eat up those greens and lean down and out those ABS!
