I would hear the grunting and moaning early in the morning.  I could hear the clinking and clanking of dumbbells being thrown all around the house.  I always loved my sleep so I just pulled the blanket over my head and went back to bed.  Who was making all that racket?  It was my dad.  He would get up early every single day to exercise no matter what was going on or where we were living at the time (we moved a lot).  Nothing ever came before his workouts.  And I mean nothing!  He taught me the importance of putting my body and my dreams at the top of my priority list.  Until he became ill a few years ago, he was still sporting a ripped and muscular physique even in his 60s.  My dad taught me that my body was something to value and hold in high esteem--inside and out.  How about you?  Do you value your body and dreams?

The illustration above depicts two very different pictures.  In one picture we have Play-Doh.  You remember that stuff, right?  That's the moldable clay you played with as a kid.   It eventually dried up and little pieces of it got caught up in the fabric of the carpet.  My mom loved me for that.  What's the value of Play-Doh?  It's worth a couple of dollars but costs pennies to make.  What is the value of a Picasso painting?  Millions!

Let me ask you a question.  Don't you think your body, life and dreams are worth more than the paintings of a dead man?

I don't really care what people think of Picasso and his paintings.  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  Personally, I love them and I admire his work.  He left all of us pieces of his heart and his passion.  But, I can tell you this from the bottom of my heart: I think YOUR life is far more valuable than the greatest of Picasso's works.

Do you see it that way?  Do you live that way?  Do you train and eat that way?  Sadly, many are living their lives with the belief that their bodies and goals are worth nothing more than a useless piece of Play-Doh.  When all is said and done, all that will be left behind are the endless cries of, "I would have if...I could have if...I should have but...I wanted to but...".

We don't want to blame ourselves for our short-comings and fallen dreams.  It's much easier to come up with excuses and blame others.  But guess what...when you pass away and leave this earth, no excuse in the world will matter.  People will only remember you by your LEGACY and not by the excuses you left behind.

Here's the incredible good news.  If you're reading this today, it's not too late to put your body, health and dreams first in your life.

Frustrations and past failures can make it seem impossible, but it's not.

With the consent of one of my clients, I want to share the testimony below.  She asked that I change her name to protect her identity.  Please read her words.  Her letter to me made me very emotional.  Honestly, I cried.  I have cut out most of it and changed her name.  You will understand why when you read it.

"Tony, I want to thank you for helping me and giving me back my life.  I came to you with the desire to change my body and look sexy.  All of that almost seems funny now.  It seems funny because I needed much more than a new body when I first started your program.  As you know, I'm recovering alcoholic and drug addict.  What you don't know is that I became an alcoholic and drug user because of the sexual abuse of my past.  It shaped my identity.  It destroyed my self-esteem.  It crushed the woman I thought I would ever become.  Even my husband and children never really knew who I was.  He thought he knew me but he didn't.  I lived the first 35 years of my life as a shell of a woman.  I saw myself as nothing and my life as less than that.  Do you know that I would sit in a house filled with friends and just stare into the distance with a blank look on my face.  Friends would joke and tell me to wake up.  They never knew that deep down inside I told myself I would never wake up from the nightmare that was my life.  The pain and disgust of my past made me hate my body and hate my goals and dreams even more.  It wasn't until I got to know you and you asked me what my kids would one day think of my legacy that got me thinking. It was that one simple question that changed my life and kept me up many sleepless nights.  You challenged me to see my life as a beautiful story and not a tragedy with a sad ending as you put it.  The word legacy was just a word to me.  Not anymore!!! Thank you Tony for giving me back my body and my life.  God bless you T!"   --Love always, Mary Donovan

You see, we all struggle with the pain and hurt of the past.  We can all sometimes see our life as being less valuable than it really is or can be.  Recently at a New York museum, a Picasso painting was accidentally torn. Although it was only a small, tiny tear that was somewhat unnoticeable, momentarily the value of the painting dropped millions of dollars.  Unbelievable!

The Picasso painting was treated and repaired.  Ultimately, the damage to the painting will not impact its value.  It will still be worth more money than most of us will see in 10 lifetimes.

I don't care where you came from or what kind of hurt and damage your life has scarred you with--your life and dreams are worth more than the greatest of Picasso paintings!  Are you going to live that way?  Do you see your life as a beautiful story or just a journey with endless trials and tribulations?  How you see your life will impact how you live your life.

I believe there is much more out there for you.  Go get it!

Thanks Tony. This is a great post. Likewise you have helped me see that my dreams are possible and that what I focus my thoughts and energy on can be achieved. Keep the encouraging posts coming.

Hi Tony and thanks so much for getting this blog up! I can see how Mary's story brought you to tears, thanks for sharing. The timing of your blog is perfect as I was looking for advice on how I can be a better influence to my 10 yr old son. If he'll remember (like you do with your Dad) how important my workouts are and if that will teach him to value his body inside and out, I can proudly know I influenced him for better :) And as for the rest of your message in the blog Tony, what can I say-your passion for all this is sheer poetry :)

Tony, thank you for the long awaited blog. Your words ring so true as evidenced by what Mary has written. Whether we realize it or not, we are making our mark on this world, I'd rather make history and leave a legacy... and impact the world and my life (and others!)for the better. Thank you from my heart... I thank God that I 'ran' across DREAMBODIES.NET

Hey Tony, I'm So excited to see your blog up and running! Your compassion is truly felt via the net. I have been on a beautiful journey that turned a little dark over the past few years. Just recently the light is shining back down upon me and reading this post has stirred my soul. I'm excited to read anything from anyone to keep the light shining in my direction! I plan to let your blog be apart of my journey back to the beautiful girl I use to be. Thanks Tony

Great post Tony, I am so glad the blog is up and running. Its a constant battle to put our body and dreams first, I know many times I actually feel guilty for doing it, thanks for the reminder that we ARE worth it. We only have one life, and by following our dreams and goals we can inspire others to do the same. Thank you for helping me see that and being a great inspiration to us all.

With your help I can say that i'm a Picasso now. Thanks for everything you do!
Posted by April J on 03/09/2010 02:55:14
Play-Doh or Picasso?...Picasso, of course. Dreambodies training is the paint and each rep, a new brush stroke. I am grateful that my friend put me on to the program last spring.

Thanks for posting this Tony! This message really hit home for me - I do view myself more like the Play-doh. I think it is also important to mention that you can view yourself that way without the pain that Mary went through. Just because you've have a "good childhood" doesn't mean you have a healthy view of yourself and your body. Keep it coming Tony - AWESOME!

Wow. This blog post brought up memories for me. I can relate on so many levels to that testimony. Thanks to your client for allowing you to share it and thanks to you for posting it. I think that many times we feel like we are the only ones when we have things like that in our past. So often, others who have gone through it seem to be doing fine and have gotten over it. I, too, was sexually abused as a child and it wrecked my self image. I began doing drugs to deal with the pain and depression at 18 and was a full blown junkie by 20. Quitting drugs was the easy part for me compared to the ingrained mindsets that come along with low self worth. I fight with it daily and WILL conquer it. Period. That's again for this post. Praise God!

Thanks to everyone for the kind words of encouragement! Cheryl, thanks. I completely agree with you 100% and in fact, I think that can be true of the majority. When I first wrote this post which was based on one of my articles, I was really speaking about how "most" people live this way no matter what their history. That's why I'm now working on a audio series based on this. Blondell, your words will help and inspire others to stand strong and overcome just like you did. From my heart, thank you for sharing. You're incredible!
Posted by Tony on 03/09/2010 06:52:14
What I find fascinating about working out is how much we learn about ourselves. In the process of completing those last few reps or finishing the last few minutes of our run, we get a glimpse of how we actually deal with difficult situations. Do we quit or do we give it all we got? I think the latter applies to most of us! Great post Tony! :)

I'm so glad you waited until you had permission so you could include Mary's letter. Her words resonated with me and I'm moved deeply by her sincerity. You give people such beautiful gifts by helping them to achieve their goals. You should be very proud!
Posted by Danene on 03/09/2010 08:34:11
FYI, I couldn't leave my comment from my phone last night because you can't see the word verification, and I could not get out of bed to walk over to the computer because leg day was brutal :) And you know I had a big long something to say... but most of all you sharing your passion Tony helped me create mine :) Keep sculpting :) Many many THANK YOU's !!!!

Very kewl story... empowering... I love to hear how other women have risen above the 'crap' to reclaim themselves... Digging the new blog... I will admit I need lessons on how to post though.

Thanks for sharing Mary's words with us, I'm happy she decided to share. This post really hit me when I read it last night and I did not know what to really post at that time. Sometimes the best way to get to someone is to leave them speechless and that is what you have done to me. My life is a beautiful story and my journey is just starting and I am proud that your are a part of that journey with me T.

Tony, you rock! You have done so much for so many of us. I, too, came to this program wanting to have a "dreambody" and had no idea that following the program would give me a "dreamlife!" It has really changed the way I view my ability to change my own world, one healthy choice at a time. THANK YOU!

Thankfully, I haven't been sexually abused like Mary or Blondell. But I did grow up in a country where physical abuse was quite the norm. Somehow I stayed strong & dealt with it without 'blaming' my parents. Emotional abuse can do quite a harm too on our self image. It was 8 yrs ago but I can still clearly hear my ex say" I hope your headaches are due to a brain tumor & you die a SLOW death" (it turned out to be just migraines :) & "you are just a piece of MEAT, guys just want to f...you, no one will ever want to marry you". So I just want to emphasize to the ladies PLEASE DO NOT put up with ANY abuse, BE STRONG, SEEK HELP & COME TO TONY -whether as a client or to his website, reading his inspirational blogs, listening to his broadcasts:)

I agree with Blondell. I'm really encouraged by the posts and the willingness to be open and share from the heart. Katalin, your words touched more than a few I want to thank you. This blog is already off to a start that no doubt proves to make it unlike any other.

I want to know why we all stive so hard to be a Picasso or to be different or to do more? What is that in us that makes us want more from life or to make more of our life? And why do some ignore this yearning???
Posted by Julie MF on 03/10/2010 21:27:23
Katalin and Blondell, they say one in four women has been sexually abused. That is huge, I was also sexually abused and physically abused, the weight problems, the self esteem issues, there is just so much going on there then we need to control calories. We need a total re-neweing of our minds, we need to learn to believe in ourselves and even realize thats its ok to dream and go after those dreams! That is one of the reasons I chose Tony, he works with your mind. Tony has a gift too, I can feel the lowest of the low and after chatting with him I feel I can take on the world. You start to really believe in yourself because he believes in you, when maybe no one else does. Thank you Tony! :)

If this first post is any indication of what the future holds for this blogging community, then this will be truly remarkable. Some of you have no idea how much you're helping others by sharing from your heart. Yvette, Thank you for all you shared. YOU are already a champion in heart, mind and body. And the comment on calories is priceless! If all that mattered was calories in and calories out, there would be millions with a lot less struggle and pain in weight loss. I have and will be writing and speaking about this much more in the future. Honestly, if I hear ONE more so-called expert "internet fat burning guru" say that it ALL COMES down to that, I'm going to puke. It's much more complicated than that.

Many live their whole lives without ever fully dealing with that and changing that through mind and life conditioning.Julie, good questions. Why? Why do some ignore? The answer to that question ultimately rests with the individual, but I believe MOST struggle with inner belief that they just do NOT have what it takes. They do not realize that chasing your dreams brings with it ALL other life changes and rewards. They struggle with not feeling strong enough-good looking enough-smart enough- disciplined enough-and all the rest.Sadly, NONE of these things should ever be an obstacle and MOST things can be changed and MADE new...brand NEW! Thanks for the great posts!
