The Corn Syrup Conspiracy!

Hey, I've got a pop quiz for you today!  If I throw some fresh ice in a glass with Propylene Glycol, add a nice shot of Sodium Hypoclorite and then throw in a celery stick stirrer, would that be an all-natural drink because I threw in the celery stick?

No, I would have a glass of ice cold AntiFreeze mixed with Bleach. Chemicals are just that--chemicals!  And, they're putting this stuff in everything.  Go search your labels.  Did you find the words High Fructose Corn Syrup anywhere?  It's anything but natural.  Watch these videos!

                                   THE LIE!

  SOME FUNNY TRUTH!

It's imperative that we READ our labels and try to stay away from this stuff.  Guess where I found some of it recently? I found it in a very popular protein powder!  There are countless studies done regarding the negative affects of High Fructose Corn Syrup on health and weight gain.  Here is one of the latest.  Read more here...

FIRST! Am I first? Nobody's perfect, and I'm certainly not, so when I eat off my Dreambodies meal plan and go rogue, I now look at the labels to make informed choices about what I'm putting into my body. This stuff is in everything, even so called healthy breakfast cereals and whole grain products. But not oatmeal and I've learned to LOVE my oatmeal.

This is a very eye opening article, especially with those of us who have kids. I had no idea! Thanks for sharing!

It is scarry how many things are in our foods that can harm us- things we don't even know are unsafe. thanks for adding to our knowledge

We really have to be SO careful and read, read, read labels these days. It's amazing how they sneak this stuff into our food. It's like Sucralose. We need a blog post on that chemical too! Bad, bad stuff!

Wow! Thanks for sharing this Tony. People to easily believe what they are 'spoon fed.' They don't even know the extent of the damage that's being done to their bodies! I will definitely pass this along! Evelyn, there are a lot of protein powders with sucralose in them. What do you use for protein powder? It's hard to find a decent one that doesn't have that crap in it (or aspartame). Makes it more challenging to find healthy and good stuff out there...

It's the stuff in the bad food that ruins our taste buds and actually sets off enormous cravings. I think McDonald's foods are some of the worst for this. Even before supersize me... I was well aware that when I fed the family McDonald's... that's all they wanted, it would happen almost instantaneously and it was hard to break the habit once it got started. I never really understood how this poured into many of the other foods we ate until cheat days with you... I quickly learned how they really weren't a reward... when the next day my clean food which I had learned to love tasted terrible. Very powerful and one of the biggest obstacles to overcome... for those of us who want to live in our dreambodies !!!!!

It actually makes me mad. I fear for the new generation of kids. So sad. Sucralose too? I need a list of stuff to completely stay away from!!! Seriously.

Great! (sarcastic), I do check labels but not so much my protein powder so better get off and check!

HFCS is even in bread. Getting hard to find bread without it. I bought a jar of grated ginger ( like the minced garlic ) never even though to read the label....and guess what's in it...HFCS. It's everywhere !!

samadhi40 said 'I bought a jar of grated ginger ( like the minced garlic ) never even though to read the label....and guess what's in it...HFCS. It's everywhere !!' -- That's crazy! I wouldn't have thought to look at that either. Makes me wonder about my jalapeno slices or minced garlic. Good stuff! Thanks for the info.

Tony, I find it interesting that you blogged about this because I just picked up a book I am reading called: CLean, Green and Lean. It has a lot of information and data about all the stuff that is the foods we eat. I am seriously thinking about going organic if possible. What are your thoughts?
Posted by Kathi on 03/29/2010 12:31:35
This is something my husband and I were just talking about this weekend; how prevelant HFCS is in products - in things you wouldn't even think about! I've started reading labels closer, and it's blogs like this that make me more and more aware of how vigilant I need to be about the food I'm putting into my body. Thanks Tony!

I don't check the ingredients as often as I should. I need to improve on this.
Posted by Blondell D. on 03/29/2010 16:43:05
Yup, this is becoming too much to keep track of and seems almost impossible to monitor completely in our lives. But we should try. Kathi, I think if someone can afford to live organically, go for it! It seems to be more financial for most. But YES!

This is a great post. I have already passed it on for others to read. I also hopped up after I read this post to check the protein powder in my kitchen and there will be some that will thrown out...sad to say. I agree with Beverley C. we need a list :) Thanks for another great post.

That's why it's best to stick with things grown from the ground, trees or animals. Poor animals ;) I remember using corn syrup on my pancakes!

Just wondering.... what protein supplements do each of you use that don't have the bad stuff in it??? To my knowledge, there's not many protein supps that don't have sucralose and other crap in it. Any suggestions please?!!?!

Thanks for this post, Tony. About a year ago I really started reading every label of every food that I got at the supermarket. If it had HFCS in it it would stay at the supermarket. What I noticed in my then 4 year old is that she was not as cranky anymore or starving for more 30 minutes later. Imagine that, HFCS made a little kid cranky. We need to stop buying the products that contain it. Maybe then food manufacturers will remove that junk from their products. It's hard when it is in the foods that our kids like but we've got to put our foot down NOW!

Tony, thank you for putting yourself and your faith out there for others to see. As a fellow believer in Christ, I strongly believe we can take Christ to the gym with us and build Him up to others just as we build and sculpt our own bodies! Thank you! Happy Easter!

Julie MF, I agree with you on what you wrote. Many ppl don't see why we do what we do... it's not about being vain at all. God gave us one body, and we can optimize our capacity in so many areas of our life and be much more effective simply by improving the quality of our health! I am so thankful to God for Tony that I am able to make the connection of my walk with Christ along with my health/fitness lifestyle!
