Any of these sound familiar? I have been working a lot with my clients lately on how to overcome negative self-talk. Let me be clear on this. It WILL keep you down and in the same destructive cycles now and always, IF you don't take it seriously and stop it.
You are a product of words, images and actions. They all play a part in developing and conditioning WHO you are and WHO you are becoming. In other words, on a daily basis, you are actively shaping your destiny with the words you use and the words and images you take in.
Now, you can't always control the actions of others or the words they may use against you. But, you CAN completely control the words you speak about yourself and your goals. Once you understand this, your life begins to change course ALMOST IMMEDIATELY!
Let me use a client of mine as an example. When Cynthia started my program 3 years ago, her final words to me on the phone before she hung up were, "Well, I trust you Tony so I sure hope this works."
My reply was, "Well then, you will fail."
After she giggled a nervous laugh and then asked me what I meant, I shared with her something very, very important.
Every single word you use in your vocabulary is tied to your life and your past failures and successes. The word "hope" simply means, "wish". I asked Cynthia, "how many times have you used that very statement about all the programs and supplements you've tried in the past?"
She said, "Probably all of them."
I told her to change the word "hope" to the word "believe" and start speaking that every single day as often as possible.
Now here we are three years later. She has lost 67 pounds and walks around like she owns the world. In fact, she speaks so confidently about herself that she gets accused of being cocky. She is not cocky, only confident.
Here are some fast techniques to apply.
1. Find out what negative words you keep repeating over and over again and write them down. Then, find powerful, positive words that remove the negative or apathetic nature of those words. Begin to replace them aggressively.
2. Get index cards and write down your positive sentences and words. Put the cards on your fridge, in the car, on the nightstand--everywhere! Read them even when you don't FEEL like it. The impact will be transforming.
3. Journal every single night about the language you used that day. Be honest with yourself and make note of any words or phrases that might be infecting you. Commit to STOP using them.
Whether or not you accept it, your words are shaping your destiny.
Why would you want to keep getting kicked in the face with the same ball?
You don't. You just never realized that you kept sticking your face out.
If you want to live in beautiful body, take control over your words. They shape your mind and ultimately, your heart!
